On September 30, 2019 Pasado’s Safe Haven responded to a hoarding case in Eastern Washington where 32 dogs were being held in deplorable conditions.
All 32 dogs were kept inside a single wide trailer, in darkness, with blacked out windows and no running water. Some of these dogs were trapped inside for over eight years, locked in cages. They were never let outside, exposed to sunlight or allowed to walk on grass.
Our medical team evaluated the health of each survivor and worked hard to stabilize and comfort them. The dogs have been severely inbred, and our team worked to address their associated health complications. We faced a total of 15 spay/neuter surgeries and specialized orthopedic care to get these dogs ready for adoption.
The dogs face a long road of healing ahead, and had not learned many of the basics such as walking on a leash, potty training and being comfortable outside. They are still a bit nervous, but the great news is that they are already showing progress and are slowly accepting affection from our caregivers.
We are thrilled to share that each dog has now found a loving forever home!
It takes a village with these large scale rescues. We’re thankful to have great partners including Whatcom Humane Society, NOAH and PAWS who stepped up to help us care for 14 of these dogs.
