Foster a rescued animal

Be part of our lifesaving team by fostering.

Foster process

Thank you for your interest in fostering an animal! When you foster, you not only save the animal you bring home. You also save the one who can take their place at the sanctuary.

STEP ONE: Review the programs below and then complete a questionnaire.
STEP TWO: We will contact you to complete a photo home check and to discuss any animals who may be a good fit.
STEP THREE: If a good match is identified, we will schedule a visit at the sanctuary.

Foster Programs

We match fosters with animals who are a good fit in terms of lifestyle and time commitment. We have several different foster programs you can choose to be part of. Find the one that works for you!

Neonatal

TYPE OF ANIMALS: Nursing moms with babies, weaned kittens/puppies who need a safe place to grow until they are ready for spay/neuter surgeries, and bottle babies.
HOME REQUIREMENTS: We typically ask that fosters keep these animals until they are big enough for spay/neuter surgeries – depending on age, this could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months.
WHY IT MATTERS: These particularly vulnerable animals need extra care and comfort that is best suited for a home environment.

Adoption Agent

TYPE OF ANIMALS: Dogs and cats who are ready for adoption.
HOME REQUIREMENTS: We typically ask you to keep the animal until they are adopted, but are flexible on time frames if you need a shorter commitment.
WHY IT MATTERS: By allowing one of these animals into your home, you can provide them with the training needed for a smoother transition into their furever home, while also providing us with important information on the animal’s behavior that will help us find the right home.

WELLNESS: MEDICAL

TYPE OF ANIMALS: Dogs and cats who need some extra TLC before adoption or a forever hospice home.
HOME REQUIREMENTS: Needs vary by individual animal, but foster caregivers in this program may need to be comfortable medicating, administering fluids, or completing other care tasks. All medications and vet appointments will be covered by the sanctuary.
WHY IT MATTERS: By providing a loving home to an animal who is recovering from abuse and neglect, you are giving them the best chance at recovery and truly making a difference in their life.

Wellness: Behavior

TYPE OF ANIMALS: Typically animals in this program are dogs who have been rescued from cruelty and/or neglect. On occasion, cats may also be eligible for this program.
HOME REQUIREMENTS: If you have experience working with dogs or cats who have behavior issues or need extra training, we need you! Typically these dogs require a home without other animals or small children.
WHY IT MATTERS: An experienced foster home can make all the difference! You may even provide the first love they have ever known.

DOG'S DAY OUT

TYPE OF ANIMALS: Dogs who are ready for adoption.
HOME REQUIREMENTS: Commitment-phobes! Maybe you are looking for a day hike buddy or a couch snuggler for the weekend. Dog's Day Out allows you to get your canine fix without a long-term foster commitment. *You must be an active volunteer to participate in this program.
WHY IT MATTERS: This program allows dogs a break from the sanctuary, a chance to decompress in a home, and the opportunity to be seen by potential adopters.

Geralt was rescued from a backyard "feral colony" and placed in a loving foster home, where he learned to be a social and friendly cat; allowing for an easier transition into his furever home.

Emma was a victim of neglect after a tragic eye injury. After she recovered medically, she was able to participate in our Dog's Day Out program, where she met her forever family.

After spending years at the sanctuary, Rush found an amazing foster home that is committed to continuing her care until she finds her forever someone.

We rescued Miles from a puppy mill, along with 250 other dogs. He was shut down and terrified of human touch, until a foster took a chance on him and showed him how amazing a home could be.
