College Programs with Pasado’s Safe Haven

We help facilitate dynamic conversations that connect university students to real-word issues involving animals, people and the environment. We utilize a variety of tools to help guide meaningful discussions around the philosophy and ethics associated with using animals for food today.

Learn about the issues

Our college presentations focus on systems theory, which is the understanding of how everything is connected. Factory farming is an inherently harmful industry that puts profit above everything else. While the animals pay the ultimate price with their lives, humans and the environment are also negatively impacted by this system.

ANIMAL IMPACT

The animal agriculture industry is the largest source of animal cruelty, killing over 9.5 billion land animals a year in the United States alone. Trapped in an industry that views them only as products, these animals endure immense suffering and violent deaths. Many consumers aren’t aware of this cruelty because the industry keeps it hidden.

HUMAN IMPACT

People employed to kill animals can come from some of the most vulnerable human populations. The violence that they participate in to make a living can impact their mental health and the well-being of their families. Additionally, while many impoverished communities grow more than enough food, that food is often instead redirected to feed the animals that Western countries eat, perpetuating global hunger.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Many are surprised to learn that animal agriculture is the most environmentally destructive industry on the planet. In fact, animal agriculture emits more greenhouse gasses than the entire transportation sector combined. This industry uses an immense amount of land and water resources and is responsible for deforestation, ocean dead zones and species extinction.
